AUDITION INFORMATION FOR "THE PAJAMA GAME"

Actors Needed
  The PAJAMA GAME cast consists of the following characters (5 men, 6 women) and a small chorus (about 5 men and 5 women) who all are workers at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory.  The ages cited in the descriptions are "playing ages."  Vocal ranges are provided for characters with major singing roles.  Everyone who auditions needs to have a prepared vocal audition; an accompanist will be provided.  A movement or dance audition will be required as determined by the character for which an actor is auditioning.  Readings from the script will also be required to complete the audition process. The music in PAJAMA GAME is easy to learn and easy to sing and, except for some numbers performed by specific characters, the musical staging is not difficult.

When romance blossoms during a labor dispute at the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory between Babe, a union committee head, and Sid, the factory superintendent, love becomes an enjoyably negotiable issue.  Songs include Steam Heat, Hey There and Hernando's Hideaway.  This crowd-pleasing romantic comedy and critic's favorite won a Tony Award for Best Musical when it debuted in 1955 and won another in 2006 for Best Revival of a Musical.

   
Character Descriptions
  Babe Williams:   (Age: 25-35)  A lead role, Babe is the feisty leader of the Union Grievance Committee who falls in love with Sid.  (Vocal Range: Mezzo)
 
  Sid Sorokin:   (Age: 28-38)  A lead role, Sid is the attractive and hardworking new superintendent of the factory who falls in love with Babe.  (Vocal Range: Baritone)
 
  Hassler:   (Age: 45-65)  A supporting role, Hassler is the strict president of the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory.  
 
  Gladys:   (Age: 25-35)  A supporting role, Gladys is Mr. Hassler’s quick-witted, intelligent and attractive secretary.  Gladys is featured in dance numbers, for example Steam Heat.
(Vocal Range: Mezzo)
 
  Hines:   (Age: 35-50)  A supporting role, Hines is a comic character with a jealous streak. An efficiency expert – a time-study man – he is in love with Gladys.  Hines does a soft shoe dance in one of his numbers.  (Vocal Range: Baritone)
 
  Brenda:   (Age: 25-65)  Brenda is a factory worker and a member of the Grievance Committee.  
 
  Mabel:   (Age: 22-45)  Mabel is Sid Sorokin's secretary.  (Vocal Range: Alto)
 
  Mae:   (Age: 40-65)  Mae is a factory worker and a member of the Grievance Committee.  
 
  Poopsie:   (Age: 22-40)  Poopsie is a factory worker.  
 
  Pop:   (Age: 50-70)  Pop is Babe's agreeable and kind father.  
 
  Prez:   (Age: 35-60)  Prez is the head of the union at the factory who chases women even though he is married.  (Vocal Range: Tenor)
