Show Descriptions

SOAP OPERA:  Not your average soap opera as a washing machine repairman tells how he fell in love... with a washing machine!

I'M HERBERT:  An old married couple reminiscing about previous marriages and flings, but they don't always know which one the other is.

IF MEN PLAYED CARDS AS WOMEN DO:  It seems like a typical scenario:  a group of men getting together and playing cards, but it's the conversation that's NOT so typical.

Character Descriptions
IF MEN PLAYED CARDS AS WOMEN DO
John:  John has established a way of living, a home of which he is very proud of and a circle of friends to which he is accustomed.  He is the host of the poker game and therefore feels it necessary to do everything for everyone.  (Age: Early 30's)

Bob:  He is the kind of person who has his nose in everyone's business.  Bob has an opinion about everything and everyone and is not afraid to share that opinion with anyone that will listen.  (Age: Late 30's)

George:  He is your token "did you hear" or "did you try" person.  Up on the latest of the latest.  (Age: Mid 30's)

Marc:  The "appearance man", he is out to make not only himself but those around him perfection.  (Age: Mid 30's)

I'M HERBERT
(NOTE:  Actors of any ages are encouraged to audition and improvisation will be part of the audition.)

Herbert:  Muriel's husband.  A somewhat crotchety old man who thinks he's always right but whose memory is, shall we say, fuzzy.  He has been married 3 times, and calls his current wife by all 3 names.  He can be a tad acerbic, but he truly does love Muriel.  When he can remember who she is, of course.  (Age: 75+)

Muriel:  Herbert's wife.  A cute little old lady who, like Herbert, is always right.  She is softer than Herbert, but she can get fairly smug and sarcastic when she feels that she has the upper hand in the conversation.  Like Herbert, she has a deep and abiding love for her spouse, even though she can't always remember his name.  (Age: 75+)

SOAP OPERA
(NOTE:  The same actor could play the first three characters.)

Loudspeaker Voice:  Radio announcer booming voice.  This will be from off-stage.

Friend:  Your "average Joe" type of friend.

Madman:  Kind of like "Captain Ahab" from Moby Dick.  He will stop at nothing to get what he set out to get, no matter what happens to others.

Maitre D':  The straight-man type, pompous, arrogant who gives good face.  Needs a French accent (real or fake).

Repairman:  Guy next door, nice, respectable…except for this OCD relationship, a little melodramatic.

Mother:  1950's type housewife, clean freak.  (Age: Mid 30's)

Mabel:  She must play 3 ages, teenager, college and mid-20'; gum chewing, possible valley girl.

The Machine:  Ethereal/spooky, seductive but not trashy way, Jessica Rabbit type (not bad, just built that way).
