A GOTHIC THRILLER BY DON NIGRO
PRODUCED BY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT WITH SAMUEL FRENCH, INC.

Although this piece is set in England around the turn of the century (19th going into 20th), English accents will not be necessary. The
presence or lack of an accent in no way alters the words and meaning of the script, and is therefore, of no consequence. However, articulation and
enunciation will be very important at the auditions, as the play is NOT set in Central Pennsylvania. In other words – there should
be no trace of any accent of any type. There will be no readings from the script at auditions. The audition will consist of cold
readings from other material, and maybe a game or two. However, anything goes at callbacks! A sense of comedic timing will also
prove to be advantageous at auditions, but class clowns are not needed. Please note that all six cast members are on stage all the time.

This dark comedy is both funny and frightening, a psychological drama set against the backdrop of a Gothic thriller. On a snowy night,
Inspector Ruffing is called to a remote house to investigate the headlong plunge of Patrick Roarke down the main staircase. He becomes
involved in the lives of five alluring and dangerous women who lead him through a bewildering labyrinth of contradictory versions of Patrick’s demise,
and that of the late Mr. Ravenscroft. With ghosts on the staircase, skeletons in the closet and much more, the ensuing investigation leads
the Inspector into his own tortured soul and the nature of truth itself. The audience will be teased, seduced, bewildered, amused, frightened
and led to a dark encounter with truth or something even stranger...
