Director Notes

Auditionees should prepare a one-minute excerpt from a recognized musical that shows off their best vocal ranger/style. Songs should be up-beat and should show off acting skills as well.

Auditionees should bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided. A capella is NOT recommended for the audition.  If you do not have sheet music, the accompanist will help you along.  
 

Please dress comfortably or bring a change of clothes for a dance call.  
 

Show Descriptions

A love story, set in New York, tells the tale of Paula, a divorced, unemployed ex-dancer, her precocious teenage daughter, and Elliot, an egotistical, struggling actor. They are all forced to live together when Elliot arrives on Paula’s doorstep with a lease to sublet her apartment. Despite their differences of opinion and temperament, this unlikely pair discovers romance as they help each other cope with the ups and downs of life and living in the big city.

 
Character Descriptions
Paula:  (Age:35) Former Broadway dancer and single mother.When her latest relationship abruptly ends, she must use her wits to keep her apartment and try to get back into the world of professional dancing.  (Range: F#3(D#3)-Eb5(F5) High Belt)
 
Elliot:  (Age: 30's) An actor. Moving to NYC for the first time to star in an off-Broadway production of Richard III, he is subletting Paula’s apartment from her ex. Must be able to play the guitar, and be able to do a number of impression.  (Ab2-G4 Baritenor)
 
Lucy:  (Age: 12) Paula’s daughter. Wise beyond her years.  (F#3-Db5 SOP)
 
Cynthia and Melanie:  (Age: 12 - 14) Lucy’s friends.  
 
Mrs. Crosby:  (Late 20s-40s) The super in Paula’s building, and Lucy’s babysitter.  (G3 - E5 Alto)
 
Jenna and Donna:  (20's) Dancers and friends of Paula, they work with her on the Ricky Simpson show. (A3 - F5 Strong Belt)
 
Billy:  Paula's dance instructor.(C#3 - F#4 Tenor)
Mark:  The eccentric director of Richard III. Must be able to do a Hungarian accent.
 
Ricky Simpson:  Non singing role. A Richard Simmons-esque TV host
